Sun rays at sunset off the coast of Ireland. Thick cloud closed in soon afterwards.
How many sunsets has this old wall seen?

Hello Anon!

Totally depends on the cultural framework you’re working from. If this was me (working from a Gaelic Polytheistic perspective), I’d probably thank Manannan (this being partly UPG I think, since I don’t think in lore he’s associated with storms?) I also associate thunder storms with Lugh, so I’d probably thank him too.

Also, as an animist, I’d probably also thank the Wind Spirits for bringing in rain, the Water Spirits for replenishing the land, and the Land Spirits for being patient.

But that’s my opinion. If you work with a different cultural framework (eg: Hellenic, Norse, etc), then I’d look to that culture’s deities to see who is better suited for thunderstorms and rain. It may also be appropriate to thank certain deities related to the land if that’s a thing your cultural framework does.

I hope that makes sense! Enjoy your storm 🙂

His cloak not only brings mist but can create cracks of thunder when it’s shaken if he’s angry. There’s also stories of how ships are wrecked in the Tonn Banks where his body was supposedly buried. He apparently ‘rides the storm’ there. There does appear to be at least some indication that he was a rain and storm god.

Oh okay! I felt I was pulling that information about Manannan from somewhere but I couldn’t place any of it in lore – aside from his cloak bringing mist. Thanks!
